Meet Ariah Steplin, a talented freshman at Fort Central High School whose dedication both on and off the court has quickly made her a standout. Ariah, a 5'10" powerhouse with jersey number 11, has been playing basketball for nine years. Known for her skill as a post player, Ariah is a driving force on the varsity team, showing athleticism and commitment far beyond her years.


At just 14, Ariah’s GPA stands impressively at 4.5, underscoring her dedication to balancing academics with her passion for sports. “Being a student-athlete is important because it shows that I’m willing to do the work and succeed academically,” she says. Ariah’s commitment to both her studies and sports speaks volumes about her determination to excel.


Basketball and Beyond


Ariah’s enthusiasm for basketball isn’t just limited to team practices. In her free time, she can often be found dribbling up and down her driveway, refining her skills. Her love for the game is clear, and she finds her happiest moments playing basketball with friends. When she’s not on the court, Ariah enjoys hanging out with her parents, spending time with her pets, and even crocheting—a surprising and unique talent for an athlete.


Her love for sports doesn’t stop at basketball; Ariah also competes in track, volleyball, and softball, showcasing her athletic versatility. Her primary motivation? Food! “I live to eat,” she laughs, proving that she’s relatable and down-to-earth, with an infectious sense of humor.

In the future, Ariah dreams of playing in the WNBA, with hopes of making it big in professional basketball. Her admiration for her coach, Witherspoon, shows Ariah’s deep respect for resilience and strength, as Coach Witherspoon has been an inspirational figure for Ariah on and off the court.


Ariah also looks up to the late Michael Jackson, whom she would have loved to see perform "Thriller" live. Usher, another one of her favorite musicians, has inspired her with his relatable music. Outside of sports, she’s also a family-oriented individual who values her academic achievements. Her parents, owners of a local restaurant, My Brother’s BBQ (featured on the Food Network!), are her biggest supporters.

Ariah’s dream destination is New York City during winter so she can see snow for the first time. She’s still considering her college options, but whatever she chooses, she’s sure to make her mark. For now, Ariah is focused on maintaining her high GPA, excelling in sports, and striving toward her goal of one day playing in the WNBA. Her motto, “Everything happens for a reason,” reflects her positive outlook and resilience.
